Her Lips Are Copper Wire
whisper of yellow globes gleaming on lamp-posts that sway like bootleg licker drinkers in the fog
and let your breath be moist against me like bright beads on yellow globes
telephone the power-house that the main wires are insulate
(her words play softly up and down dewy corridors of billboards)
then with your tongue remove the tape and press your lips to mine till they are incandescent -Jean Toomer

11:15 pm - Help! Please somebody, anybody!
|
Finals started today, Erziehungswissenschaften was today and I think I at least managed to pass. Psychology is due tomorrow. *shiver* Multiple choice is soo not my kind of exam. And I'm constantly distracting myself (or get distracted by evil author-persons and room-mates).
So, wish me luck tomorrow.
Motivational quotes of the day:
“Take the first step, and your mind will mobilize all its forces to your aid. But the first essential is that you begin. Once the battle is startled, all that is within and without you will come to your assistance.” Robert Collier
“I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious”
Vince Lombardi quotes (American Football Coach, national symbol of single-minded determination to win.1913-1970)

8:20 pm - Poem of the day
|
If we must die, let it not be like hogs Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot, While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs, Making their mock at our accursed lot. If we must die, O let us nobly die, So that our precious blood may not be shed In vain; then even the monsters we defy Shall be constrained to honor us though dead! O kinsmen! we must meet the common foe! Though far outnumbered let us show us brave, And for their thousand blows deal one deathblow! What though before us lies the open grave? Like men we'll face the murderous, cowardly pack, Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!
~Claude McKay

11:08 pm - Quote of the day
|
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~by Maryanne Williamson Used by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural speech

10:08 pm - I need more space, or less books...
|
So, term's over, exams all written and I think I only failed Linguistics II. Will know for certain at the end of August. Anyway, I had time today and started The Big Cleaning I promised myself to do once I had some time. Rooms mostly clean now, still have about 3 basket full of stuff to sort trough, my old school things to throw out and the university stuff to sort in. Over the term I couldn't restist and bought books, that I mostly put aside for reading during the break and so on. Now I have the problem of a Big box full of books and I only have two already full bookshelves. Means I get to, once again, sort my books to make some room. Already got 2 boxes in Opa's attic and another one her... I need more space. Maybe I can get my parents to pu some more bookshelves up? On the stairs maybe? There is no more space in the hallway, thanks to the 3 shelves my sis and I filled up there...
Ju's bithday is coming up. Party is next friday. My family is going on vacation from wednesday to monday, I get to care for Oma. No problem, she's rather self-sufficiant. Needs just some help wíth the leg from and to bed. Still got no feedback about bbq at my place on thursday. Have to mail the others to ask again if Toby can make it (poor man has to get up at 4am the next day...).

Dear brain, either explode or shut off! Having a constant headache for three days - days where I had to hold a presentation and wrote a test - is not my idea of fun. 'specially not, when I have an exam in two days, and still need to study. Seriously pissed of, Me

So, my parents are on a 3 days vacation in Sylt. Great, means my sis and I have the house. Not so great, I have to care for Gran (helping with her leg each morning which is too fucking early 'cause she thinks it's a wonderful idea to get up at 7. when I have a free weekend. cooking and helping her to bed (which I should get to soon...)) and being there for Oma and Opa. Was grocerie-shopping this afternoon because neither of them is able to drive a car anymore. Love them all dearly, just sometimes they are getting on my last nerve.
My Oma loves flowers. Especially the blooming ones, and roses. No kidding, she has at least 52 rosebushes in her garden; ranging in colors from white, to yellow, to two-toned yellow-orange, over pink to purple and red. Looks so great! Love it. Maybe I'll get some cuttings for my room...
CONGRATULATION to the Netherlands! The game was great! 4:1 against France with some realy wonderful plays. Way better than the Germans yesterday.
Hopefully my sis has nothing planned for tomorrow evening. I'll meet with some friends and someone has to stay with Gran... ah well, we'll see.

can you imagine being married (to the same person) for 50 years? I don't know what they call that anniversary in English, but we call it Goldene Hochzeit. Anyone up for giving me the translation? My grandparents had theirs last Saturday. It was awesome! 'specially since my granpa had a stroke last year and it's kind of miraculous the way he is recovering. So spend the day meeting the extended family and it's kind of sad that my sister and I are about half (or even less than a third) the age of everyone else. No-one to share those parties with... I mean it's nice to see them all but most of them I see maybe 2-3 times a year and there is not all that much we can talk about.
In other news, I'm really busy with university. My 10 page essay for History is due on Monday and I have problems with formulation and quoting (and getting the required number of pages). So I'll be a nervous wreck for the next few days... And my English paper is due on Thursday. Damn.

8:04 pm - new york new york
|
so, the vacation we had planned for next wednesday had to be cancelled. But we got another one on short notic. We, mom, sis, and I are flying to New York next Tuesday. This means 4 days there. Anyone with some ideas (or tips, if someone has been there before) what to see, or do, where to buy books (cheap (thanks to the dollar exchance rate right now) english books without having to pay for atlantic shipping! Yay!) or clothes?
This one book said that it's unusual to pay cash. Really? Cause that's rather normal here (at least for things up to 200€).

So, a while back I filled out my applications to the universities. And send a mail th the CDC that they should send my IELTS-score to said universities, because I need them to be acepted. Now I just got a phone-call from the TU-BS that they I didn't register for their english-test and that they didn't get any notic that I've done another test. Me, of course is close to panic, get directions on what to do (send a copy of my test-score to the "englisches Seminare" asap). Will make a copy today and send it. Had to call the CDC if they even send out my scores, 'cause if not, I don't get in any of my chosen Us. Fortunately they said that they send them (and at least 5 days before "application-time" ended). So it's the fault of the fricking German Post?! Arg. Can only hope the other universities got the scores. Because TU-BS is the one I want to go to the least.

6:31 pm - Surprise, surprise!
|
This "town" has an Internet-café, and I have time to spend. This is were I am now. My day is very organized and filled. 7:30-8:00 Breakfast 8:00-8.30 on Fridays and Tuesdays Therapy in small groups. 8:30-10:00 Training time (you got a list of exercises you should do each day on your own 10:00-10:30 break ("eat-some-fruit-break") 11:00-12:30 Therapy in groups 12:00-13:00 lunch 13:00-14:00 Time to rest ("go and lie on your back to ease the strain") 14:00-15:30 Training time 15:30-17:00 Therapy in groups 18:00-18:30 lunch
So you got lots to do, but after that you do not know what to do with yourself. There is nothing interesting in this "town" (to big to be a village and to small to be a town or city...) Sundays are the worst. If you have no visitors there is very little you can do. Well I finally have the time to read. Am already trough 2 books and well on my way trough my third. If you want to write me a letter - don't hesistate! I'm in Room 382.
